Professor David Spiegel

MD, professor, School of Medicine, associate chair of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, and director of the Psychosocial Treatment Laboratory - all at Stanford University, USA.

Professor Spiegel is a leader in the field of psychosomatic research, treatment and development with particular interest in the field of psychoneuroendocrinology/oncology. Since beginning research on the effects of support groups for women with metastatic breast cancer in 1976, Dr. Spiegel has conducted numerous studies showing that group psychotherapeutic interventions have positive effects on mood disturbance, coping and pain among these patients. He is the author of a total of more than 350 research papers, chapters in scientific journals, and books.
